  1. Removed the Drop, the pod, and the USB cable from the packaging. It is always a good idea to read the user manual. Then, plug the USB cable into the bottom of the device. The flashing blue light will indicate that the battery is charging. When the light stops blinking, the Drop is fully charged.
  2. SMOK mods, especially for newbies, can be a little complicated. For this reason, we decided to break down ALL the settings you’ll find inside your SMOK mod in order to help you better understand how it all works and fits together! SMOK makes A LOT of mods but most of them run exactly the same software, though some mods – the G-Priv 2, for instance – utilize touch rather than button.

The SMOKTech X Cube II 160W Bluetooth TC Box Mod is one of the most advanced systems I’ve seen yet. Integrating a maximum output wattage of 160W, temperature control technology, Bluetooth 4.0 support, and a combination of an OLED and RGB LED display array, magnetic battery door, wattage memory, and more, it is an easily impressive box mod, not to mentioned an unbelievable feat to find a way to release the X Cub for under a $100.

The SMOKTech X Cube II wattage range is 6w to 160W, and when combined with a resistance range of 0.08 to 3.0 Ohms, it is a powerhouse that can accommodate today’s sub-ohm tank systems, RDAs, and RTAs with ease.

With the temperature control module activated the X Cube II also becomes one of the most versatile Vaporizers for modern Vapers.

The X Cube II also utilizes Bluetooth 4.0 in conjunction with a downloadable smart app that allows for the adjustment of settings and other controls, even the RGB LED strip can be set in one of 16 million different colors.

Made from a Zinc Alloy and Stainless Steel (only the 510 connector is SS) the X Cube II features a top, square, OLED display about the size of a postage stamp. A USB port is located at the base for firmware updating (not for charging). A magnetic battery door makes access easy to the dual 18650 batteries (30A and up). The SMOKTech X Cube II 160W TC Box Mod is just $99.99, and with all the bells and whistles you could hope for the price-cutting had to come from somewhere. I’ll discuss this vital issue in my Impressions below.

One of the nicest features is the wattage memory, a feature that allows for multiple profiles for various tanks you might use. In other words, this X Cube II box mod is a modern kitchen-sink Vaporizer.

Note: Temperature Control functionality has to be activated through The SMOK X Cube II’s app and it isn’t free. Why SMOKTech decided charge extra for activating the TC mode is anybody’s guess.

Impressions

The X Cube II is a massive SMOK box mod, especially when compared to other SMOK box mods, and even outside box mods like the Pioneer4you IPD2 or even the iStick 100w. It is uncomfortable to hold because of its size and its fingerprint-spongeglossy zinc alloy exterior is not what I want in a Vaporizer.

Manual

Using the new FreeMax Starre PRO tank with its 0.15-ohm Ni200 coil head I found that reaching down into ultra-low ohms was a breeze. Most of the time I was using various sub-ohm tanks and I never ran into a situation where the X Cube II wouldn’t fire, or the 510-connector could not make solid connection with the X Cube’s adjustable Pin.

Cost Cutting

In order to make the X Cube II affordable SMOKTech chose to save money by using a Zinc Alloy for the body while other companies are using high-grade aluminum or 304-stainless steel for the exterior materials. This Zinc Alloy is the reason I would never use this device past the review period.

The worst feature by far could have been one of the best features, and that’s the Firing Panel. I can understand the need to keep the weight and cost down, but the result is a thin zinc alloy panel that feels cheaply made . It is necessary, I get that, and probably unavoidable, but I still don’t like it. In fact, the entire exterior of the device drives me nuts. Maybe I’m allergic to cheap Zinc alloy, I don’t know, but holding this thing feels awful. I couldn’t wait to finish putting in the time for an adequate review, and immediately afterward I throw in the drawer just in case Julia or Jason wants it.

The X Cube II 160w is a box mod that wants to be everything to everybody, and in some ways it achieves that. Is it worth the $99.00 price tag? Yes, definitely, if the zinc alloy and flimsy firing panel isn’t a deal killer for you as it for me… this is an amazing piece of tech. Had SMOKTech simply included all these cool features in the body of the X Pro 80 this would have been a shining moment in SMOKTech history.

Cube

As for the rest of the features, all the safety protection features are here and they are nice to have, but they are also expected these days. The display is pretty enough, though not as large as it should be (slightly larger than a postage stamp), and the temperature control, or temperature limiting tech works just fine…once you pay the $10 to activate it, which is really a dumb move on SMOKTech’s part.

To activate the temperature control you launch the SMOKTech X Cube app and sign in (or create an account first), choose the temperature mode option and pay the money. The Temp Control hardware is already in place, it just needs to be activated.

Warranty:30 Days, covers defects only.

Smok Cube Ultra

Grade: A-Why an A- ? – I can tell you over and over that the firing panel feels like crap and I can’t stand touching the zinc alloy, but I cannot dismiss all the features packed into this box mod. The OLED display is excellent, and the resistance range as low as 0.08 is outstanding. the wattage memory, temperature control, and so on are all welcome features. To put as simply as I can, I can’t stand the X Cube II because of the Zinc Alloy exterior, other than that, it’s a feature-rich Vaporizer at a good price, even after paying to switch on the temperature control.

Recommendation

Smok nord 2 user manual

If you see this extensive feature list and say to yourself, “This is what I want”, then for you I recommend the X Cube II. If you’re the type of Vaper that doesn’t need, or want, the kitchen sink technology than there are vaporizers out there that are better suited for your needs. The Sigelei 150w TC for the same $99 price tag is perhaps a better choice for you, and the temperature control feature doesn’t require a separate cost to activate it either.
